Feedback From You, The Reader

The blogoshpere is an interesting place. I’m sure I have said that before, many times. It’s certainly a place where writers (like me) can engage with an audience (albeit a smallish one) and learn more about your reading preferences and about what type of writing resonates with you and what doesn’t.

Sometimes though a writer makes mistakes and chooses inappropriate or tricky titles that intend to catch attention but instead can offend or ‘turn off’ a reader. I think I made such an error last week, with a post title that began with the words, Tongue Mutilation. Eeeeek….it even makes my skin crawl to mention it, now. 

Horror, Gasp – It’s Halloween

The thing is that that particular post actually expressed my own aghast about the fact that such  a procedure exists!!  It was a kind of protest post.

Therefore, the fact that I received some comments (not published here) that said things like ‘Thanks, what a great way to lose weight (or similar)..’ and then left a link to a site selling diet pills, kind of threw me a bit.  Or, since it’s Halloween, spooked me, a bit. What were those readers thinking, I wondered??

So I will just say it here again, in case my post was misread by some, that  I STRONGLY DISLIKE AND DO NOT ENDORSE IN ANY WAY, WEIGHT LOSS METHODS THAT DO NOT FULLY RESPECT THE HUMAN CONDITION. And that covers quite a lot of them.

You, The Amazing Creation

You and every other human being on the planet, are more special than that. Rather than being ‘an assembly of body parts’, you are a multidimensional being that deserves an approach to change in your life (such as a change to a healthier lifestlye) that encompasses all aspects of you; your heart, mind and body. Any approach that excludes this truth actually saddens me.

In the coming weeks therefore, I have decided to share a few extracts from my book, Reframe Weight Loss to help get you started on your weight loss journey or perhaps to give you a boost along if you are already on one.  So please, stay tuned!!

Positive People

In the meantime, I am adding a link here to an article about self reflection and happiness, that you may find interesting. It is by an inspirational lady, called Marala Scott and her article may be read here.

Marala is a person who greatly respects the human condition and is doing amazing things to make a postive difference to the people she connects with.  I hope you enjoy her site.

Accepting Ourselves and An Apology

First up, on Friday I posted what was supposed to be a bit of fun. And some of it was. Unfortunately though technology let me down. The animations didn’t work like they were supposed to. And the result? A few of the animations/pictures I posted were er….not so funny.  Sorry about that. Everything worked fine here on the site, but apparently that perfection did not transpose to the email copies sent out  to you wonderful people who subscribe. 

Needless to say, I won’t be using them again.

My apologies again to those whose copies were affected and now, on with the show…..

How Do You Feel About Your Body?

Body Image is something we are all hear about in the media, is it not?  And because of this image awareness, we are all well aware (or at least I hope we are) that the images portrayed in women’s magazines etc…are often not real (but are air brushed and technologically altered) and in many cases, not healthy.

Yet do our brains intelligently and reliably inform us of this truth? Or we still challenged by them? Maybe even threatened and discomforted by them?

From my own observations and the feedback I get, we are.

Time To Heal

So today I’d like to do what I can to help heal those feelings and encourage you to throw out some of those perjorative body labels you may have been subconsciously accepting.

Yep, throw them out – toss them out the window, dump them in the rubbish, flush them down the loo or whatever it takes to be rid of them ! You don’t need them !

The Reality

Your body is a beautiful and amazing living breathing entity.  Right now, without any conscious effort on your part, your heart goes on pumping your blood, your food goes on being digested, your hair grows and your skin repairs and renews all it’s little cuts and grazes. You are, in fact, a perfect and wonderful creation

Why not appreciate your body’s unique characteristics? Be, in awe, of it. Celebrate it. Love it.

The Truth

The comparisons we humans can make between one body and another is endless if we let it be. One person will be taller/shorter than yourself. Another more hairy. Thinner. Fatter. Older. Younger. Another has red hair/you have blond hair.

And that’s all fine. What a boring world it would be if we were all the same.

So today, right now, I’d like to encourage you to look beyond such comparisons and decide to love and appreciate ourselves (just a little bit more than usual).

Let’s decide today to celebrate our own uniqueness and individuality and love ourselves instead of constantly making reference to all that we perceive to be lacking.

Now to be clear, I’m not saying to give up on the weight loss journey. At all. Not even close. What I am saying is maybe it’s time to be  gentle with yourself. Take it easy. Breathe. Accept. And know that no matter what stage of the weight loss journey you are on; just beginning, haven’t started, half way there, you are still a beautiful human being.

A True Definition of Good Health

Good health is about more than having a great looking body. It is about nuturing and caring for your whole self – body, mind and spirit. It is about incorporating balance, moderation, peace of mind and awareness into your life. This means giving up the perjorative labels and negative talk!

Are you ready to give yourself a litte more self love today?

Weight Loss or Weight Gain – Make Your Attitude A Positive One


Good Morning !! (or I guess, good evening or whatever time it is in your world). It is morning here in Australia at the time of writing this and I am feeling refreshed and invigorated and ready to roll (I think it’s just a morning thing, I may wane a little later on 🙂 ).

So, today I’m exploring, as the title suggests, an aspect of weight control that is (in my experience) rarely discussed. It is the notion of your attitude to your amazing body.

Body Image Friendly Awareness

A few days ago here in Oz, a new government initiative was launched in regard to magazines and the body images they portray. The idea that the media in general has contributed to the rise in eating disorders by lauding overly skinny catwalk models as the ‘ideal’ for women to aspire to, is nothing new.  However, this new initiative lays responsiblity even more closely with the media. It also offers a ‘Body Image Friendly’ tick of approval to magazines that refuse to display unhealthy, unrealistic and overly thin body images. I think this is a huge step in the process of change now taking place within women’s magazines. Let’s hope we see some real positive change in these publications.

Your Body, Your Attitude

Whether you are overweight or underweight however, comparisons of any sort are unhealthy. Although I fully support the laws that encourage more social responsibilty within the media, I also wonder whether there is another aspect involved in all this – our own personal attitude and body awareness.

 Of course, if you are a teenage girl or young child, your ability to come to a new awareness of ‘you’ is very limited (unless you are wisely guided and supported) and your perception of your body is still largely formed and influenced by the media.

May I be clear here that my discussion today is aimed at ‘the rest of us older adults’ who are still forming a view of our bodies, in this way. Although my discussion is relevant for all of us, I, in no way, purport to have all the answers to the epidemic of poor body image and related eating disorders we now see in society.  I have the utmost empathy for anyone suffering these ailments and wish for them the inner peace and emotional tranquility they so deserve.  Love and hugs to anyone currently experiencing this type of disharmony in their lives.

My discussion here is merely to point out the fact that many of us, regardless of the images we view, are still using perjorative body labels and some of these attitudes do not even arise from our size.  The  labels we often use include, but are not exclusive to, the following – homely, plain, ugly, unattractive, boring, etc….

Revamp Your Attitude

I’d like to do, what I can today, to encourage you to throw out these labels – toss them out the window, dump them in the rubbish, flush them down the loo or whatever it takes to be rid of them ! You don’t need them !

Or, we can decide today, right now, to love and appreciate ourselves in a way that looks beyond such comparisons. We can decide to celebrate our own uniqueness and individuality and love ourselves instead of constantly making reference to all that we perceive to be lacking. Stop the hating and start the loving!

It is my belief that our attitude to our bodies, along with the food we feed it and the exercise we give it, can make an enormous difference to our overall health and wellbeing. I hope today you can take some time to think about these ideas and I would love to hear your take of all of this, so as always, feel free to join in the discussion. Slowing Down To The Pace Of Life – Some Time For You


The Simple Life

Hi there weight loss friends (and all),

In describing this blog to a friend the other day and discussing my aim to bring support and encouragment to those on their weight loss journey, I realised that most people would think that’s all I will talk about. The weight loss stuff…food…exercise…diet. 

Funny thing is though, although these elements are very important to us for health, general wellbeing and weightloss, there’s actually a bit more to ‘us’ than ‘the physical’ and sometimes those parts of ‘us’ need attention too.

As so much of life these days seems overly complex (iphones, apps, computers, mobile phones, message banks, non-human call takers…) there’s perhaps a good chance of overstimulating our minds or at the very least not taking enough time to recharge and revive.  Often we are meeting or trying to meet too many demands from work, family, business, friends and have too little time to just sit, reflect, remind ourselves of our goals or just breathe slowly and relax. 

So I thought I would encourage you today to do just that.  Take a little time to slow down, sit and do nothing and let your mind rest. 

It could do wonders for you.  And when you’re mind is calm and your thinking clearly, remind yourself of your goals and why you want to achieve them.

Recommit To Your Goals

Forget about those phone calls or that deadline, just for a minute.  You can go back to those things soon. They’ll still be there.

After you’ve taken this moment….I have one more suggestion for you to take on board.

Keep going!  Sometimes without support from family, friends or mentors, it can be tempting to just throw in the towel and give up.  But I’m here, offering you the encouragement to keep going. 

You’ll get there!
